September’s Word of the Month is Perseverance. Perseverance means never giving up, even when something is hard. It’s about pushing through challenges, staying focused on your goals, and refusing to quit, no matter how long it takes.

In karate, perseverance shows up every time a student keeps trying a kata until it feels right, practices a kick until it’s strong and sharp, or gets back up after falling down. Belts aren’t earned overnight; they are the result of steady effort and determination. Every black belt began as a white belt who chose to persevere.

Perseverance doesn’t just belong on the dojo floor. At school, it’s finishing that tough assignment. At home, it’s helping with chores even when you’d rather be doing something else. In life, it’s holding on to your dreams, even when obstacles try to get in the way.

This month, we encourage all of our students to remember: success comes to those who keep moving forward. When things get tough, don’t quit. Take a deep breath, reset, and try again. That’s the true spirit of perseverance, and it’s a lesson that will carry you far beyond karate.

Challenge for the Month:
Think of one thing that has been hard for you in class, school, or at home. Make a plan to practice or work on it every day this month. At the end of the month, reflect on how much progress you’ve made by sticking with it!
